Your first appointment (the consultation) will involve a questionnaire for you to fill out in the waiting room asking you about your main complaint and many other questions regarding your health, so that the doctor will have a better understanding of your problem before you even walk into our office. You will then meet the doctor who will spend time listening to what YOU think the problem is, followed by some more relevant questions, and then finally the physical examination.

The physical examination involves many aspects of physical assessment, including neuroorthopaedic, chiropractic and neurological testing. Sometimes we may need x-rays or blood and urine samples to make a more definite diagnosis.

At the next appointment the doctor will have had time to think about your individual diagnosis and will try to explain what they think may be the problem, what it may be due to, and how they think they can help. We also have a good relationship with many forms of health professional outside of chiropractic such as general practitioners, dentists, neurologists and surgeons, should we think a referral for your problem is necessary.

Treatment, if the patient so wants it, will begin in this second appointment. All treatments are individually tailored for that patient, and usually involves an adjustment or some other type of tissue work. Frequency of treatments are usually high to begin with, and then tapers off once the doctor feels the body can handle itself.  It is a primary belief in our Chiropractic clinic that with a little encouragement in the right direction, the body should, can and will take care of itself (99% of cases).  High frequency of treatment at the beginning of your treatment plan is to ensure that the body gets a clear idea of the direction and capacity it should be striving to maintain itself at. Once it becomes clear to the doctor that this is the case, the treatments will become less frequent and you will become more in tune with the working potential of your body. This can happen very rapidly for some, and not so for others – it depends what the problem is, how long you’ve had it, and how complicated it is.

Treatments are also backed up with many other therapies should your doctor deem it necessary for you as an individual, such as dietary or physical advice, nutritional supplementation or acupuncture.
