Kenneth Bramberg is one of three chiropractors in Sweden who have attained masters level in Paediatric education, meaning that the clinic is fully experienced in the treatment of numerous childhood complaints.

Babies
One of the most common things for parents to bring their children in for is ‘colic’ i.e. excessive crying. From our perspective, one of the main problems causing this (asides from the usual hunger, tiredness etc) is usually to do with the child being in pain for some reason, most usually spinal pain such as a sore neck, or tummy pain.

Specific signs can be looked for newborns and infants before the age of communication to assess what the discomfort can be due to, such as;

  • whether the infant has its head turned one way more often than the other,
  • the infant prefers only one breast to feed off and seems aggrevated when fed from the other (usually due to the neck position whilst being fed),
  • The infant only seems to cry in certain positions,
  • The infant often cries while clutching its head (headache)
  • or the infant cries more around (especially after) mealtimes.

Reasons for a baby to be in pain may seem ridiculous as birth is one of the most natural things in the world, however, due to our sedentary lifesytles and bad posture contributing to structural problems in the womb, and the trauma of birthing intervention such as forceps, can cause damage to the baby inside the womb, and on its way out. Of all the children that have been brought into our clinic for this, there has been a high success rate in the reduction of crying time as reported by parents and family members (check testimonials).

Children
Children fall off trees, climbing frames and bikes, they fight and push each other over, they bang into things constantly – what would our adult bodies be like if we did that everyday?  Not very good!!  Luckily enough, childrens bodies are designed well enough so that the joints and bones are relatively soft until well into teenhood, in order to cope with the misdemeanors of a very clumsy learning period.  However, just because the joints and bones are soft, doesn’t mean that they don’t respond to trauma in the same way that adults bodies do, it usually just takes until the body is old enough to begin to show signs of it.  Many teenagers and adults are treated here for accidents which happened in their youth and resulted in back pain which they notice when they begin to study or sit in classes for long periods at a time.

Children also suffer from the same problems as adults a lot of the time, and are examined in the same way as any other patient (plus the obvious paediatric examination), checking for structural, nutritional and emotional factors simultaneously, as rarely do these problems have one finite cause.

Children these days are also frequently diagnosed with neurodevelopment disorders such as ADD and dyslexia.  One perspective is to think that the child must have a disorder and therefore requires medication which will decrease symptoms (which is unfortunately the case some of the time). The other perspective however, is to see what is going on in the body and how it can be helped in the best way so as to support itself – the body was not created to dysfunction, it always does the best it can with the environment in which it finds itself.  Often we have found in this clinic that improving structure and nutrition, decreasing toxicity levels, and following a stimulatory neurological program has had excellent results with symptoms of neurodevelopmental disorders.  We do not strive to cure these ‘problems’, but to merely assist in improving the quality of life for these patients and their families.
