The word chiropractic comes from the Greek “Cheiros” which means “done by hand”. The founder of the chiropractic profession D.D Palmer (1845-1914). He realized the importance of the nervous system and it´s connection to the spine when he treated a deaf janitor who´s hearing improved. Chiropractic has now become the third largest group of primary care physicians next to dentists and medical doctors.

 


The first chiropractor came to Sweden in 1921 and an association of chiropractors was formed in 1936. This association then became Legitimerade Kiropraktorers Riksorganisation (LKR). All chiropractors educated abroad received Swedish registration in 1989. In 1999 The Department of Health lowered the requirements so that also the Chiropractors educated in Sweden received registration. This makes it difficult for the patients to determine the difference in quality. We recommend you to choose one of the 200 Chiropractors in Sweden, educated abroad, they are all members of LKR and are Doctors of Chiropractic or Masters of Chiropractic.
